Hey there,
I've just joined the Fiat Forum, I hope it can be useful and interesting. I have a technical question, which I hope to receive an answer to.
I've just bought a second hand Fiat 500 Twin Turbo, a 2011 model first registrated in september 2011, with 13000 km / 20917miles on the clock. I discovered that the car hasn't had any service at all, and I was wondering if this could lead to any damage on the turbo, or any other vital parts in the engine?
Clearly, I will have it fully serviced now and most carefully maintained in my ownership, but I'm most concerned about it's first three years living with the same engine oil.

I live in Norway, and the maintenance guide in all norwegian Fiats recommends a oil change every year, no matter how low your annual mileage is.

Best regards TwinTurbo

If the oil level isn't below minimum u should be fine.

Hello and welcome

Good to have you on the forum.

I'm thinking you mean 20917 km / 13000 miles.

High quality modern oils should still protect the engine after that kind of mileage and most likely no irreversible damage has been done.

An annual oil change is certainly good practice, but you can't turn the clock back now.

I'd focus on enjoying your car and on regular servicing going forward (y). How you drive and look after the car in the future will likely have the greatest influence on its long term life.

Letting it idle for a minute or two before switching off will significantly reduce the risk of turbo damage due to lubrication failure.

If the oil level isn't below minimum u should be fine.

Ahmett's engine has survived far more spirited driving on fewer oil changes than your car has likely seen ;)

No offense intended, but why do people not check these things before they buy a 2nd hand car? 3 years is an eternity to go without a service. You have to wonder in what other ways the car was abused by the previous owner.

I think a Corolla might be able to get away with that kind of thing, but probably not a FIAT.

Good luck to you, TwinTurbo. Hopefully your car won't develop problems. (y)

Only 13K though, it's not like it's gone 36K without a service. I wouldn't worry too much.

Sorry about the figures here, I got it all wrong. Of course, the correct mileage is 13000km or 8000 miles. Thank you all for the good answers, I'll enjoy this forum in the future! I hope my turbo survives, although it has been living it's first three years and 8000miles in the same oil. Now, though, I've brought the car to Heaven; regular oil and oil filter shifts will be provided!

i don't think you need to worry mate, the car was a little neglected but I don't think there will be any harm done (y)
