What an excellent forum! Lots of great information but not found what I was looking for yet, I wonder if anyone can help please?

We have recently bought a 2011 Twin Air 500 which is soooo much fun. It has the sat nav dash port and we picked up an original sat nav.

It seems to pair ok, we get the successful sign on the nav, we get the 'Welcome' voice and the 'Map500' indication on the dash but we do not get any sound through the speakers, nor do we get any navigation controls through the steering wheel controls. We have set a route, have increased the volume via the radio controls, have tried another unit and it is the same, the only thing we haven't tried is the unit in another 500. The sound comes out of the sat nav ok.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong please? Thanks in advance.

You're not doing anything wrong apart from doing what I did and assuming that a satnav that costs twice the normal amount and integrates with the car would work through the speakers.... It does not....

Thanks for the quick replies:

My phone does work though the Blue&Me, I can make and receive calls ok but have not tried to pair it when the Nav is paired. When the Nav has been paired and I get the welcome voice and the Map500 light up on the dash, the system tells me no phone is paired if I try and make a call. I assume the Nav and the phone can both be connected simultaneously, I'll try that today.

The Nav is the original Fiat Map500, I have tried two, a used one and a new one. Both have used the same SD card if that makes a difference.

Are you saying that the sound does not come through the speakers? The guy I bought the used one off said it did, that's how he used it. I assumed the original Nav worked like that.

The Nav does appear to sync to the Blue&Me ok, but the sound comes out of the Nav and I can't do anything via bluetooth. Have tried voice commands and steering wheel controls - no navigation menu on the controls after sync and before/after route set as the manual seems to say there should be.

Thanks again.

ps I've also updated to ver7 Blue&Me and no change

Hi I could be wrong here but could map 500 be designed for a different models b&m? I have the tomtom b&m 2 and I'm pretty sure the old version of that was just called tomtom b&m rather than map 500... My one definitely does not talk through the speakers, even though there is an internal and external sound option in the menu system. My phone works as expected when both are paired.

The Map500 seems to be the original that did integrate - before any TomTom. There seem to be different aspects for the TomTom 1 and 2 and some 'may' not integrate depending on what version and port you have - I can't post URLs yet so I can't link but there are useful posts on the forum detailing this mentioning the 54K and 68R ports.

It seems like 2009 is the latest map available for the original so another downer.

A b&m TomTom2 went last weekend on thiefbay for £124 or thereabouts, was gutted as it was a bargain.

If you have the option 68r port built into your dash, then I believe you need either the TomTom B&M, or the TomTom B&M2,depending on your model year.I'm unsure if the later B&M2 is compatible with older installations (not that 2011 is ancient!)

This is the first generation B&M TomTom, it has a slightly different shape mount and a more rounded satnav casing on the top

This is the B&M2- it is flat to the top of the casing, and different cradle.

I have a 2012 car.I use the B&M2, and have updated the car's B&M software to v7.0 (see the Blue&Me forum threads). The B&M menus on the dash change to include a "satNav" option once the unit is paired with the car. My B&M2 does NOT play through the in car sound system. A phone should pair with your B&M at the same time as your satnav

I believe that if you have Map500 it is the system preceding B&M TomTom, and was inaugurated in 2007. This would suggest that it (Map500) was being phased out by 2010,ie before your car.

I think you are correct, although it pairs, it does nothing and needs an older version of car to work correctly which is a bit of a gutter and I've been done like a kipper

I've bought myself some new wipers and Xenon DRLs to cheer me up.
