General Brake Clunk :-(

It doesn't but its implied, why else would someone ask for a video except for some ghoulish desire to enjoy someone elses misfortune :p, not that this is helping the OP.
With a video you can tell whether a sound is normal and a characteristic, or a fault....

Have you got a bee in your bonnet or something? :) My first advice if there is something wrong with a car under warranty is to take it to the dealer, but this could just be a noise which is characteristic of the car hence a visit to the dealer and letting some chimp loose on your car might not be necessary.

The reason I suggested you post a video was that it's a characteristic of the 500 to be a little bit clunky when pressing and releasing the pedal. Here is the noise mine made a little while ago. If your noise is like this then the chances are there is nothing wrong, if it's not like this then there is obviously something wrong. There are lots of little bits of slack in the various components of the mechanism and that's what makes the clunking noise.

That's why I asked for a video :) If they'd sounded the same or similar you'd have some degree of certainty that there was no issue, if they were different then you could tell them where to go when they say "They all do that sir/madam"

Yes I have.

People come on here for advice. They get the right advice, which you agree with, but then get conflicting/confusing advice aswell. This seems to be endemic on this site and you were the unlucky one that had the final straw.

Just seen your further posts, if you'd put them up first I wouldn't have gotten out of my pram.

Hmmmmm, there has been no conflicting advice though.....

If I'm honest, you've actually given bad advice/troubleshooting tips in this thread......

If the noise is coming from the linkage then a pothole will not have caused it. You took it upon yourself to come out at me as if I was telling him to take his dash apart and liberally spray WD-40 over the whole brake mechanism inside the car.

Now after I've posted a video, the OP is fairly confident that there is an issue and is armed with at least something with which to fend off the "oh, they all do that sir/madam" comment that the dealership will usually make.

I am the first one to come out when someone has a fault under warranty and say (I paraphrase) "What the **** does it matter what the problem is!?!?!?! You've got a warranty, use it!", but it's also a good idea to take into consideration the little idiosyncrasies of the 500 and not send people to the dealer needlessly and waste time, hence the request for a video. Do we really do our job properly if we send people to the dealership for crunchy indicators?

I think, in this case, your reaction was a little disproportionate.

The OP was describing a noise from their car, they don't complain that braking function is impaired on the car, and Daniel's advice of taking a little video recording is actually a good way of determining what the issue may be as well as helping others - so is less likely to be conflicting/confusing advice.

I agree that it can be hard to filter through poor advice given on car forums, but ultimately this advice is given 'at the users risk' and any OP has to decide what course of action to take.

Leave playing Forum Police up to the moderators :)

And as a moderator you think this statement is necessary?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on here, we wont stand for bitching between members its not on! A difference of opinion is one thing but just because someone had a different idea to you doesn't make their idea wrong...

After all a brake issue could be something stupidly minor (eg a bent heat shield) or seriously dangerous (broken calliper slider or missing pin).. its hard to tell from a few words on a forum even over the phone....

A video clip could lead to those in the know to advise to call out a flat bed truck to get it recovered to the dealership after all it wont be the first or the last time something critical has broken or not been fitted correctly during manufacture. Or a simple put steering on full lock and bend the heat shield away from the disc with your fingers.... Id rather do that than take a 50 mile round trip for them to keep the car for a day to bend a thin bit of tin back a few mill

You have to remember that this is a friendly family based forum. If you have an issue with what someone else has said or done on here Use the report button and the Moderation team will look into it. Rather than take it on yourself it just means we have more cleaning and tidying of threads to do than is needed in some instances..

That is a cop out! Our 500 doesn't do it and no car should (regardless of make or model). Take it back and insist it gets fixed. It might be worth trying a different dealer, you don't have to use the one you bought it off.
