Does anyone have any experience with rattles in the door trim/cards?

Ive had one in the passenger door for a while that goes away when the interior is very warm. So I'm confident its the plastic trim.

I removed it 2 months ago to take a look and all the plastic pins holding it in looked ok.

Is there anything else i should be looking for? or any tips to stop the rattle?

Sorry is there is another thread on this already, but i couldn't find one.

At the moment, my car is at the dealership for the same reason! I collected the car on December 8th. In my case the rattle comes from both doors. Is your car under guarantee or not?

Yes it's only 12 months old.

Though my dealers not great at finding rattles so im trying to solve it myself.

I had the entire door card off yesterday and even wedged bits of fabric in between the trim inder the glove box but the rattle is still there.

I've had the dash off too but still couldnt find it.

Sometimes you need someone else to drive the car over a suitably rippled surface whilst you keep pressing various bits of trim until you find the culprit.

JR's previous posting on trying to 'pin point' the rattle is good advice. If it is in the door you could try and 'sound proof' the door which might solve the problem. In trying to improve something it can have the effect of solving a problem.

Another option which might see a little far fetched is to used a Silcone lubricant spray for a 'rubbing sound' but it wouldn't solve a rattle.

Ive used silicone lubricant all over the dash to succesfully stop a creaking noise. Any more lube and the car might feel dirty! :p

The rattle must be coming from somewhere near the glovebox area as it still did it with the door card off and all wires tapped down. It could even be coming from the bottom of the A pillar... Its really hard to tell from the drivers side. And every time i get someone else to drive with me in the passenger seat the rattle stops!!! Maybe the answer is to find my look a like and glue them to the passenger seat to trick the car. Kinda glad i went for 15" wheels... maybe the 16's in a 1.4 would cause more rattles?

I had a rattle on the Funk white near the glove box area and what was causing it was the secret compartment door. I used to give it a few bangs with the back of the palm of the hand and it would settle down.

I currently have a rattle in the glove box of the MiTo (downsides of having one - will be curious if it develops in the US model). If I spray around the 'hinges' liberally it supposedly solves the problem (on my to do list). I was thinking of the spray being used in your car around the seal of the doors and possibly between the metal and the door cards - anywhere where 2 materials can rub together. Could it be used around the 'secret' compartment ?

ill give that a go on the secret compartment. i remember my old punto had a rattle on the glovebox door and the solution was blu-tac.

Are you sure the rattle isn't something loose to do with the passenger seat?

I'm posting an update. I got the car yesterday, what they did was to lubricate both regulators and the rattles are gone.

What are regulators? My rattle coming from the inside. I'm convinced its trim as it stops after the car interior warms up.

Does anyone know how to get to them? does the metal of the door come apart?

This guide by pearce_jj shows how to remove the door trim panels. Once off you then just need to remove any plastic sheeting on the door to allow access to the window regulators. If you are able to carefully peel the plastic away from the top, just enough to allow access you can re-affix it and its integrity will remain intact.

If it looks as though it will tear then I suggest making a small incision at the point you need to be able to access the regulator and then reseal it using some tape.

Good luck.

And while you're in there, it could be worth taking a few extra minutes to remove the handle & apply a little white grease to the hinge pin. Cheap insurance against joining the "My door handle fell off" thread.

Thanks! Ill have a go at lubricating it when i next get a chance.
