Technical Roof channel trim cosmetic?

Just removed the trim and sticky residue. Consequence of leak (not Welsh) chase.
Ran a sealant bead just in case, although no leaking at present.
So why replace the trim which significantly blocks the channel?
By way of explaining; I'm 1.62m and cannot see the trim without a lift from my Missus .
