1.3 Diesel 500

After a long non-stop motorway run at around the legal limit I noticed that the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark symbol was showing when I had just pulled into the services (no warning beeps etc). Everything else functioning ok, engine running sweetly. Switched ignition off and re-started - no more yellow triangle. Did a similar run back and no problems. Returned 63 mpg for the 600 mile plus journey.

It states in the the handbook that it is a Generic Failure but doesn't give much away.

Any thoughts?

Manual says possibly the following

Engine oil pressure sensor failure.
Problem with parking sensors.
Water in diesel
Fuel cut off not available
External light failure

Thanks Maxi

Such a lot to choose from  - none of which were obvious.

Whatever it was seems to have 'repaired' itself :D

I will have to keep an eye on it.

Cheers

I would suspect if the light went off straight away it was just a glitch but then again who knows. I think I had a light flick on yesterday as well but if it did go on by the time I looked down it had gone off. But perhaps it was just me imagining it.....

John, did you not get a message showing in the display?

My wife came home from work last week and said that this light was showing and to fix it before I could have dinner. I switched the ignition on and there was no message but just the light which stayed on after I started the engine so I switched it off whilst looking in the manual.

I then switched on just the ignition and got a message scrolling across saying a brake light bulb had gone. Fitted a new one and light went out when engine next started.

Grim - i didn't notice any warning message but then I was mainly in the outside lane for a few hundred miles so without a warning beep I had no reason to check. When on the motorway, I rely on the warning beeps on my SatVav to let me know when I go over 80 - I mean 70 :D. Otherwise I'm looking ahead and in all three mirrrors constantly.

However, I will now do a thorough check of all bulbs etc.

Cheers

Quite good that it monitors external lights - impressed with that. Shame it doesn't have any monitoring on the windscreen washer level!

John, you might not find anything untoward if the warning light has now gone off but you might just be lucky and see a bulb that is a little blackened. As I noticed on my car, the warning message didn't appear whilst the engine was running, only when the ignition was next turned on, prior to starting the engine.

I probably don't need to mention this to you, but just in case you, or indeed anyone new to 500 ownership wasn't aware, you can select speed warnings from the menu system for the times when you don't have the satnav in the car.

At least the DPF got a good cleanout.

I used to get this a lot on my Grande Punto along with a message on the dash saying "Check running lights" when I started the car. It would come and go until finally one day a headlight bulb went. Replaced the bulb and it never came back.

Last week I got this warning light, My partner scrolled through the buttons, and was directed to the bumper light bulb had blown. So easily fixed, but when the warning light came on and I'm doing 70 on the motorway it had me a little worried at first.

"Thread Resurrection"

Went to put car away in garage last night and noticed the yellow triangle warning light on but no message. Did the usual trick of switching off engine and then just turning the ignition on and message appeared saying check DRL.

Sure enough the OSF wasn't working. Switched them off in the menu and message has disappeared for the moment so now have to decide as to whether I replace it with another PIAA item or just refit the originals.

As I will be trading the car in later this year I think I may go for the latter option.

Did make the point of checking that both sidelights were still operating OK (ignition off - lights on) and they were so I can leave this job 'til the weekend. (y)

Okay, a question got in to my mind after reading this thread. Your car makes you aware of a burnt bulb? Mine sure didn't, passenger side headlight bulb went off and the car didn't say anything about it:confused: Didn't think about it too much then, just thought it odd that a car so new didn't say anything, as my '94 volvo did

I have just started to get this warning light on my car for the first time, will check the lights etc to see if it is that, if not it is booked into the local garage on Tuesday.

I have found out that it is the rear brake light that needs replacing, so I am going to pay a trip to Halfords and cancel the expensive trip to the garage!

Anyone ever fitted a new bulb? I take it is quite easy?

On the rear lights it's very easy.

They do, however, require a screw driver to remove, make sure you take one with you or borrow one from the store like I did (y)
