I decided against the Blaupunkt and managed to get hold of an Autovox Piper. Thanks for the heads up!

A delightful little radio. Going to get an FM module put in it and an AUX connection.

Will post a shot once I have installed it! ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1431174781.499901.jpg

Where do you intend to send it off for modernisation?

I have a few Autovox Pipers and other Autovox radios and was going to attempt this work myself....

I would be most interested in who you've chosen to send yours to....

I've been speaking with a chap called Mike at Chrome London. That's where I originally planned to get the blaupunkt from, he says he's worked with a few before...the space is limited but they've managed to get the fm in there.
I'll keep you posted!

Tadpole radios also do conversions, I found them very efficient.

Andrew have you installed one in your Fiat?
I tried today, but the bonnet support was stopping it from sitting in far enough to be flush with the dash. I need 10/15mm more space.
Any ideas?

no not yet.
stick a picture of the radio up here and I'll take a picture of mine and lets see if they are the same.

I trying to work it out, but pretty strange seeing as they are renowned for fitting that ashtray space.

Ah, it's got to fit!
My motor is still in the garage, but I'll get it in there somehow once I have it back home.

Let me know how you get on!

There seems a huge difference in the cost of modifying them between Chrome and Tadpole......further investigation is required......
Chrome London want £180 and Tadploe want £355.....there must be a difference in what work is carried out....

Blimey,
It's bloody dear isn't it!

Might have to dig out my headphones and stick with the iPhone!

BUT it will look very cool............;)

I love period accessories as I've mentioned previously.

Makes it mine without being naff

I have just purchased an autovox piper radio. I too have found that it is about 6-8mm too long. I guess unless I make a spacer I will have to modify the bonnet hinge support.
Does anyone know how to wire these radios up?

I assume that was the one of Ebay Sean that finished yesterday? I was watching it when it finished. I expected it to sell for a lot more.

I was thinking about bidding on it but decided not to but I was intrigued enough to watch the auction end as I thought there maybe a bit of a bidding war at the end between the two people who seemed most interested but it didn't materialise and went for a pretty reasonable price. I think it was in Whitstable?

As you look at the back as in your pic the 12volt feed from ing or battery goes to the right spade terminal
The speaker + connection to the left spade terminal
The earth - for the speaker and car body to the terminal on the radio casing.

Cheers Luigi, that's what I thought it meant but didn't want to blow it up until I was sure!
Yes Tony, that was the one. I originally asked him how much and he was looking for £50 buy it now, so I decided to go with the bidding.
Glad I did now

Haha the other bidder was me!!! I already have three of them and was just giving it a punt......I kinda guessed it was you Sean and was going to mail you......made sure we didn't pay too much
