Hi,

Just wondering would anyone know is it still possible to get a windscreen for a fiat Uno. I presume they were the same for the MK1 and Mk2. The newest Mk2 Uno is now 20 years old.

Anyone know,
Thanks.

Not 100% sure but I think the screens are different
I bust a screen on my mk1 uno turbo (whilst preparing for respray after fitting horman wide boy kit) I got a replacement supplied and fitted by autoglass (in the uk) it wasn't to expensive eather if I remember right it cost about £120 but it was 1998-9 there might be someone on eBay breaking one if your stuck ;-)

find out who local car traders use for glass replacement rather than autoglass
your wallet should feel better for it if you get an independent guys number
my ballpark figure would be £100 supplied and fitted tops?
you might get a nice green tinted old stock one too

Try www.uroglas.com 01527 577477. As we've discovered, mk.1 and mk.2 screens are different, but both available, mk.1 made to order prob, now.

mk.1 is 679mm tall on centre line, mk.2 is 671mm. Also different top edge curvature - mk.2 'crowns' about 6mm less.

Unfortunately my v late mk.1 seems to have metalwork that's part mk.1, part mk.2, so neither will fit - Autoglass have tried both (and broken one), supplied by Uroglas (insurance job).

I thought they were different the mk2 looks flatter but I've never compared the two side by side

True along the top edge, by 6mm, but same along the bottom.

Pity to fit a mk.2 screen to a mk.1, as it's printed with dots and decoration that doesn't look right. Acoording to Autoglass, a mk.2 screen is now the standard item they bring along to a mk.1 car.

But mk.1 screen is also 8mm taller than mk.2 screen, on centre line, brings the glass edge v close, almost touches the mk.2 metal at top, while bottom and side margins are as normal. So it's surprising that any kind of rubber would get round that.

As I said, my v late mk.1 seems to have mk.2 metal at top, so the new mk.1 screen that I have doesn't fit well - it's too tall and too 'crowned' at the top.

I'm thinking of getting the the mk.1 screen fitted by bonding - the bonding compound wd then be 6mm thicker than it should be, at top centre. I might slice the rubber gasket into simple semicircle section, and face-bond it over the joint so it looks right, hopefully obscuring the top-centre mismatch between glass and metal.

Any comments?

Only problem is if the bonding don't work or looks bad it's a hell of a job to get a bonded screen out without cracking it ;-)

Also if I remember right the guy that fitted it said something about the turbo having a slightly different screen to other mk1 unos but I might be wrong as it was in 1998 (16 years is quite a long time ago) think he said it's thicker and tinted slightly too ;-)

Thanks guys, was worried the Uno was so old I won't be able to get one.

I hot a screen for the Mk1 last week. It cost me 85 euro from a place in Galway (Ireland). No bother getting it. Ordered it on Wednesday and had it on Thursday.

From personal experience (I've fitted a Mk2 screen into a Mk1) there is a small difference in the mounting rubbers, with the Mk2 being a slightly bigger rubber yet one that sits slightly more flush. So, get the rubber from a Mk2 and the screen will fit a Mk1.

Nothing like poping your own screen in (y) I don't like these new bonded jobbies.
