I have recently bought a fiat uno rally car it has a standard engine and i would like any tips etc to increase power as quickly as i can and also can i cut out the lambada sensor and cat if fitted

yes you can remove the cat and lambda if you want, but id be very surprised if a 'rally' car has a cat fitted, unless it is really just a road car with a few stickers on?

best way to tune the 1.0ie is to remove it and stick it in the bin becasue there is no point throwing good money at a crap engine. then fit a better engine like the 1.3 or 1.4 turbo.

First question is whether you want it for road use or racing it. If you want to race it you have to look into the class specific regulations.

Tuning the 999icc engine is a possibility. It can be turned into a nice little screamer, but this would be more for track use.

Using the 1108 FIRE you can extract with a reasonable amount of investment around 100bhp. If money is no object there is much more in the engine.

The 1242s will give you around 130bhp with a limited budget.

The 1368 needs quite a bit more money thrown at it to exceed this.

The one good thing on the three othere FIREs is that they slot in without modification on gearbox and mounts.

Other than that you could use the new Turbo FIRE, which has quite some potential.

If the car is indeed going to be used for rallying then there may be a restriction on engine size for the class it was built for. Therefore the 1.0 litre engine may have to stay. Also, entry level rally classes often ban the use of turbos so the 1.3/ 1/4 turbo engines are out.

Also, the FIRE is NOT a crap engine Jug. That's a very flippant remark to make about what is quite a groundbreaking and very strong engine. The basic design of the 1.3/ 1.4 Turbo engines are MUCH older (they were designed in the late 60's and saw use in the first 128) and they are considerably heavier plus have 30% more moving parts. On the track/ stage weight is a handicap in terms of performance and handling so there are big advantages to using the FIRE lump instead.

For tuning a 1.0 FIRE i.e. the first step should be to fit a 266 camshaft, which I think is the same as a Punto 75 mpi. The original 1.0 litre camshaft is designed for torque and economy and doesn't like to rev. I *think* the cylinder head from a Punto 60 has larger inlet valves so you could look at fitting one of those. Then look at fitting a larger throttle body, maybe from a Cinq Sporting or Punto 55/ 60.

Other than that you'll need to look at improving the induction and exhaust systems. A good session on the rolling road will help to point you in the right direction and/ or tweak any mods you've already done. And don't forget that Oldschool has had a lot of experience with tuning FIRE engines so contact him if you want reputable work done.

Oh, and I take it you've bough that white mk2 rally Uno that was on Ebay recently? If you did, it used to belong to a member on here called SuperUno!

It is a standard engine with a 5sp box fitted was used fo endurance rallys but now going to be used in stage rallies allowed up to 1400cc 8v it goes quite well in 1st to gears then lacks power if i could increase power from 45 to 75 or more quite cheaply that would be good as it is my 17 year old sons car there is straight thru exhaust with it but it i think is of a turbo as it has 4 bolts on the flange and the one on the car has 3 also no place for the lambada sensor i don.t know if i cut it out will the car run ok and do i just cut the wires ? any help most aprieciated cheers

yh all these engines sound ok but u can fit a lancia delta engine in it if u wanted raw power my mate has ordered one and all he rele needs to do is change mounts
