Hi everyone,
I have a problem on my Uno 60 Mk2 1992 1108cc car.
The heater is only capable of blowing hot air (at all speeds) as the temperature control is not working. It was always a bit sluggish when changing from hot to cold but has now given up the ghost completely (the air circulation control is intact though).
I thought it might be cos the control cable had worked loose but when I checked it (after dismantling the centre console inside the car) it seems OK, so could it be a fault with the cable itself or because the control valve has stuck or is faulty?
Grateful for any ideas or help to point me in the right direction.

Ta v much,
Andy

try putting the heater switch to hot then whilst lookig at the mechanism turn it to cold, you should see the cable moving a rod that controls the flap, if not push the rod by hand and try to see why its not moving it

Not sure if you can see as easily in a mk2 Uno, but stick your head in the drivers footwell and look up and towards the bottom of the dashboard and bulkhead. You should see two pipes coming in from the bulkhead, and one of these will connect to the control valve that turns the flow of hot water on and off. You'll see where the cable connects onto it. If you're very nimble you might be able to reach round and move the heater control while still looking at the valve in the footwell. If not get someone else to move the control while you look.

If the cable moves the valve then the valve itself is probably faulty. You'll have to either change the valve or find a scrap Uno and pinch the entire heater matrix assembly with the valve still attached to replace yours.

If the cable doesn't move at the valve end then there is a problem with the cable itself or where it attaches onto the heater control switch. If this is the case try and turn the valve by hand to see whether it does indeed still work or if it has seized open. If it has seized that might explain why the cable has become damaged (it could possibly have been forced).

Good luck and let the forum know how you get on (y)
