Do you know what the compression should be?
We have a 1986 X19 with 128,000 miles completed (had it since 1988). I’m thinking of having the engine, gearbox, clutch re-conditioned. It has not been running so well and less power than I remember. But so far I’ve been quoted £2000 to £2500 so I did a compression test first to convince myself to part with the dosh ….. but it would help to know what it should be on the 1500 engine.
I have checked the compression several times since I first got the car. Initially readings were around 230 to 240psi, now range from 118 (No 4) to 165 (others are 152 and 155). The difference seems pretty convincing, No 4 is poor. If you know of someone to do the work in the UK let me know… please.
Thanks, Kevin
