While clearing a block windscreen washer bottle on my 2001 19td Ducato I noticed that there is a wire coming from what I believe to be the diesel filter. It ends in a plug and there is a corresponding plug on the loom next to it. What does this wire do and is there any reason why it would have been unplugged??

Possible reasons.

1. Forgotten to reconnect after changing filter, or checking for water.
2. False alarms from sensor, or fault on sensor.
3. To kill a genuine water in fuel alarm, but that is not wise.

Good idea to reconnect and check for any alarm, or blown fuse. f water in fuel alarm lit, then carry out water draining procedure.
