Hi folks,

I've recently bought a 57 plate 500 with the 1.3 Multi-Jet engine in it as a cheap commuter car.

I noticed tape on the hose between the MAF and the Turbo and assumed it was split and knocked a bit off the price. :)

However now we've taken it off the car it looks like a right bodge job with two or three different hoses tapped together.

I bought what I thought was the correct pipe from ebay but it won't fit as it wants to be in the same space that the intercooler to inlet manifold pipe goes

Could the engine have been swapped and it has a mis-match of parts? I can't seem to find anything that looks right.

I'll try and post some pictures.

Thanks
Julia

Looks like it's in need of some tlc there's various clips that cables or pipes should be clipped in and in the 3rd pic there's a nut missing from something, sorry I can't help 're piping if all else fails you could get a custom one made up, in the last pic there's a water pipe behind the rad on the petrols the metal section corrodes underneath

Now youve got pics of how it looks..

Take off all the tape.. and see how many joins.. splits etc

If youve got diameters that are totally different.. its obviously not just a taped.up split..or two

What is all that black Gaffer tape..??

Looking in the large end you can see another thinner pipe inside. Its obviously several pipes...

The Gaffa tape is around the ECU loom.

I added the Gaffa as a temporary measure  the fabric binding had gone awol.

It was the cheapest one I could find which wasn't an Insurance writeoff! :p

How would I find the part number of a 2009 1.3??

Thanks.

i've just had a look at my daughters 2008 MJT and the new pipe you have brought looks like it will fit hers.

Could it have the newer diesel engine fitted with the variable vane turbo (95bhp?)

I've just looked at the pictures again and I think your right
It is the lower part of the two that's fits the oldr engine's as I remember the breather connection stub being white

It's been nearly 16 month since I had the 500 so probably forgot what the hose looks like

Thanks for confirming we have the right part :) even if it doesn't fit. :bang:

Is there any resource for decoding the engine number I wonder? my google-fu is weak today!

I've ordered a second-hand intercooler pipe from the well known auction site in case mine has been bent to the wrong position. Looks like its tricky to unbolt at the inlet manifold end though

Thanks again
Julia

Hi Folks,

Probably of limited interest but I've got to the bottom of my mad inlet hose.

I hadn't realised the correct pipe connects directly to the Turbo - the hose clamp should have given it away - so was trying to connect to the small section of hose. It is a really tight fit.

The fabric tape arrived at just the right moment so the gaffa tape has been removed :)

The bodge pipe is actually 4 separate pipes held together with hose clamps! It probably cost more in hose clamps than my secondhand part.

Looks much nicer and might perform a little bit better too.

Thanks for the suggestions
Julia
