Nice looking set of fueling devices!! That must be one of the last few FZD's in existence :D
Well glad you appreciate them, I currently have seven Weber 26IMB carbs and 4 Weber 28IMB carbs with two more on their way next week. Dellorto FZDs, well I can tell you that is not the last in existence 🤫
They are getting so hard to get these days but I have taken a special interest in them after reading about them on threads written by an Australian forum member who used the name bambino. His threads go back to 2010, they are thorough and make for a great read. I googled Dellorto FZD history and nothing official comes up but the threads by bambino did.
I got my first one when I bought a basket case 800cc special Alquati engine. The engine had been prepared in the mid ‘80s by Italtune & Lanciana in London. The owner was an RAF test pilot and amateur racing driver as a side line. In his own words he had a need for speed. He had tested the engine with a Weber 30DIC and a Dellorto FZD 32/28.
I later bought a complete 595 Italian prepared Abarth replica engine mainly because it had a Dellorto FZD fitted. I would guess that over the last 12 or so years I have had my hands on about 15 of these carbs in various states of repair. As bambino pointed out in his threads they were often used as a twin carb set up so they can present challenges if intended for use on the fiat. I do not know if they were ever a standard fitting on any production car but the only possibility would have been the Innocenti version of the Mini Cooper S. They were available and fitted to Minis and Morris Minors in the UK. One I bought had been fitted as a single to a 900cc single seater racing car and another twin carb pair had been fitted to an old Volvo which definitely not standard.
They do pop up from time to time, mainly in Italy, and I know a guy in New Zealand paid a visit to his local car breakers and picked one off the shelf, mind you Horopito is a very special place. I have shipped a few overseas especially the US.
