Technical Valve Clearances..

Well, we've rebuilt our X's engine and she started first try.. but she's a bit tappety tho'.. when I checked the valve clearances after fitting a new cambox gasket, they were ok, if a little loose. and now I'm thinking I should've went a bit tighter.. My question is..Now I have to buy shims should I make them on the tight side or aim for the OEM clearances?? Any help appreciated..

aim for the OEM clearances, over time valves wear into the seats an make gaps smaller

Cheers Dave, what about making them a smidge tighter, say 0.1mm? I want it to be as quiet as..

its a fiat its supposed to tap a bit + or - 0.05mm is ok

UPDATE: Well, I did the shims on the tight side and she's lovely and quiet now..(for a Fiat!) and tickover's nice and steady.. Thanks for the help Guys
