You can pick up a 2.0L twink from a Strada/Ritmo Abarth with 130bhp as standard (well when it was new it might have been).
To find an example that still offers that level of tune might take some doing...
Normally it would be closer to 105/110bhp which isn't a huge gain over what the sohc can offer with little effort, more so when you consider the weight penalty of the twink.
The relative good news is that the twink responds well to the usual Fiat tuning steps - manifolds, induction, gasflow of the head and enlarged inlet valves. The bottom end is pretty good up to about 150bhp and only really needs to have the bearings replaced as a precaution.
If you fancy some reading then a copy of Guy Crofts evergreen tuning manual for the twincam is essential *but* you might have some fun finding one in the first place. Your best option is to contact him at
www.guy-croft.com and see what he has to offer. (Guy built the engine for the Lotus-Lada that appeared on TV some years back, the fact that Lotus went to Guy for the mechanicals should say something about his work).
If you are looking for budget tuning don't feel put-off by Guy's prices - his engines are supremely good and built to an exceptional standard... all at a price that the average street car can ill afford. When you factor in the cost of rebuilds due to shoddy work it does become quite realistic.
If you want cheaper (compared to Guy) then you might want to get in touch with the tuners in Cyprus - the twin cam is very popular there and you can still get most of the parts easily and at a good price.
