Hi guys,

Did the Fiat Tipo ever come out in automatic? What were they like to drive and have as a car?

Were the transmissions ok on them? What type of gearbox was it? Was it shared with any other cars on the roads?

Here in New Zealand I've only seen automatics in diesels but yea I also heard the only petrol one with auto was the 1.4. I could be wrong though. The Tempra and the Lancia Dedra (I think) came out with the same trans.
I found the auto transmission on the diesel tipo quite nice and smooth to use but I'm not sure about reliabiltiy and maintenance. Who knows

They did the autobox in 1.6 only in the UK, a CVT `selecta` box, in DGT spec only till the 92 facelift, then SX spec until 93.

I think 1.4 was the upper limit for a CVT box from most manufacturers.

You could have the same 1.6 selecta spec on the Tempra 91-93, then only on the 2.0 when they facelifted it. I saw a Tempra 2.0 TC auto in the scrap yard last week, that was a normal autobox not CVT, but according to my library you couldnt spec the autobox with the twin cam in the Tipo.

Mainland Europe may have had different options to us.
