My thermostat has ceased to function so I have a new unit to replace it. 1.9 JTD.

However, upon looking at the hose clamps I can honestly say that in my 70 odd years I have never seen hose clamps like them and wonder how the hell I am going to remove them without destroying the hoses.

I guess they are the originals - nothing like good old Jubilee clips!

Suggestions most welcome.

Why didn't I do this in the warm weather? Fool!

You can get a special tool for them, but most people break them off and replace them with Jubilee type clips.

Thank you Dave, YP & Mark, I appreciate the comments.

There are, it seems two types of hose clamp. One that would likely be removed by the specialist tool or circlip pliers (not going to buy either of these as I intend to replace with Jubilee clips!) the other type is an odd version of a Jubilee clip and from what I can see it may be opened by a small screwdriver.

As there are only two 13mm(?) screws that fix the unit to the head I wondered if it may be advantageous to remove them to get at the smaller clamps to the rear?

If all else fails I may resort to hacksawing through the composite material the hoses are clamped to or other similar brutal methods always watching out for the nasty finger slicing items!

Or as a last resort I may begrudgingly take it to a garage and let them do it!

I haven't bitten the bullet yet just bought all the necessary Jubilee clips to re-assemble. These are the two clamos I can see - the closer poor focused one I guess requires the pliers. The second looks like it may be adjusted by a screwdriver? Any one?
