Hi all

I've got a croma prestigio 2006 67449 miles on the clock full leather all the mod cons sunroof climate control xenon lights etc over the years I've spent a lot of money on it ie. New alternator, tyres and rear link arm and I think we had new shockers too. Also new clutch. 20000 miles ago new inlet manifold and flap actuator with cambelt and tensioner. EGR valve at same time dual mass flywheel. Last week a bearing on the input shaft in the gear box went. It still drives, hesitant going between 1st and 2nd, and is noisy on the move with grumbly noises so, as the cost of repairing the box is too much for me to contemplate I'm putting it on for spares or repair open to offers

Hi it would be a shame to break this Croma and I can understand why you have thrown the towel in as it were. At the right price you might be able to get more for it than breaking it. A gearbox change is not a pleasant job but a good second hand box ex Vectra are cheap and plentiful an enthusiast might upgrade to a m40 and change those drive shafts at the same time. You certainly have worked down the list of faults other than the alternator it would be unlikely for them to fail again, you were unlucky with the dmf ours still ok at 105,000miles. The problem with all these fault s is that unless you can fix them yourself the cost is unbearable but £350 your own cosy garage and weekend would get it back on the road. A nice prestiago on auto trader with warranty 68k would be £3000 ish trade in would be £1500 ish .However with a broken gearbox a private sale at the right price might tempt a keen home mechanic.
