Technical Sound proofing repair

Car back from welding tomorrow.

I had to break up a fair bit of the Oem bitumen sound proofing pads.

Anyone got any tips for replacing? There seems to be lots of products. Stick some self adhesive sound pads over the rough remains?

I wouldnt worry - just ensure the fresh metal and welded areas are all nice and clean before been sealed up with a underseal / waxyoil type of product

The underside gets sand blasted, so ensure there is a decent layer to protect the car

The oem stuff is strange as it seems to go rock solid but something like dynamat is very similar

Another favourite is flashing tape available from screw fix

Dynamat is a wallet basher.....and I want to get it back together tomorrow.

Like the flashing tape idea.

I guess that the Oem mats are laid on, then heated up to melt the tar underneath. It really is tar, it breaks up beautifully with hammer and chisel, comes off in clean chunks.

Lucky you - mine was like to get off
It had some section that came off in chunks, some came off in stringy bits!

hammer and Scraper - chiesel only way

FYI - DONT use a Sanding disc on it.....

ha, I had a bit of fun with a wire wheel in a grinder. Good for melting the tar and firing it everywhere else, where it cools and sticks.

Chisel was spot on

you could of course warm up the broken bits of bitumen and respread it into the nooks and cranies
dont use underseal in the car because it will stink heavy bad fumes for ages
also consider a mastic covering then primer then paint

Not a bad idea.....but I've hoovered it into the bin, too many small bits.
