Just need to clarify this one

There are one or two posts on the forum in the
punto section where it says that when the
Service Due warning is displayed that the
body computer disables the Aircon until the
Service Due warning is reset due to as fiat
say safety reasons.

Can anyone verify if this is correct please.

John

umm, i hope so, my aircon has never worked since i got it, and i have had the service due come up since i got it.

If your aircon isn't working then chances are that you have the snapped aircon pipe problem. Very common.

Does the light on the aircon switch come on?

Does it need re-gassing? If it has been left for a while with no aircon fluid in then the seals will be knackered so when it is re-gassed the fluid will just escape from seals.

As for the service due/aircon failure safety thing - I have never heard of this before.

When I bought my stilo I didn't go over it with
a fine tooth comb. It was cheap it had six months
mot and it was December and I didn't fancy having
to weld either of the two cars I had to pass an MOT
outside in that weather. I kept one to repair when the
weather warms up and scrapped the other.
The stilo had been serviced a couple of months eairlier
by a non fiat garage and the service due not reset.
I was assured the aircon was working by the previous
owner and had been regassed recently, as the temperature
outside was around 2 degrees.
Did a few searches on the internet and came across the
service due and dissabled arcon issue along with
the fractured pipe syndrome, on a number of web pages,
obviously fiat artn't going to admit it's true.

Ok the light comes on the aircon button when pressed
the engine revs blip slightly upward then drops back to
750rpm but I cann't see the centre of the compressor
shaft rotate as it should when the magnetic clutch engages.

This is complete rubbish, service counter on stilo is in instrument cluster, engine ecu will not switch on a/c compressor if the gas pressure is too low or high. you probably have a broken pipe or leak in the system.
