General Seicento S - Heater Blowing Cold again

It sounds to me like the head gasket is leaking to a coolant chamber causing air locking. How long have you had the car?
If the thermostatic valve has been messed with, then the previous owner knew of a problem?

I'd suspect the head gasket -- the only half way sensible reason for removing the stat is to fudge/bodge an overheating issue.

So, compression test. They could have used one of those horrible sealing additives (Barrs Leaks, etc.) which might have clogged the heater matrix/cock.

But compression test first.

when you move the lever from hot to cold it is supposed to move the valve you need to remove the sound insulation aft of the engine and check

if it don't move easily set it to hot and tell offspring to divert to wind screen and not touch risks of leak

then google Eurocarcare for phone and phone you need the whole matrix expensive

take battery out remove insulation unclip hose clips etc difficult... clips pigs

Have just checked on the car again and the coolant has gone down again to below the minimum level.
