i am changing my alternator which has only done 20,ooo miles from when it was fitted it is a pig of a job unlucky like some o dont have the use of a ramp or pit i have to do it laying on my back but i have noticed i need to get a new crank pulley
i have now got my old one out went to fit new one and was to big i found it easy to take the fan belt adjuster crank pulley and drive shaft of the old one cam out easy then after getting the replacement new one it went in easy going to finish off in the morning
I would really like to know why these things crack. Mine has had this same crack for 8 years.
Easiest way I found to get it out was remove exhaust , rear mount and oil pipe then the job is easy.
Hi Guys I was very nervous to start to replace the alternator on my wife's Multipla as I read so many thread about how difficult it is and how complicated to remove and put the new one back. Finally I found this above... I think the original alternator has a "skinny" section which fit through between the drive shaft and the lower frame with no issue. Luckily I bought a factory refurbished alternator so I had no problem with the job at all, I did it on on the way as scoobie described and I filmed the most crucial part. I hope that will help for someone. I can't add URL to the post but you could find on youtube "Replacing Fiat Multipla 1.9 jtd alternator"just to add a quick note,,,you dont need to undo the wish bone or any engine mount,,its the oil dip stick tube thats in the way and that is only a 10 mm bolt..once you have moved that out the way the alternator comes out ok...

Did my alternator today, 4hrs on the drive on ramps, very simple and easy to do. Alternator is from eurocar parts rtx-alt part number 401650332. The old one slips out with a pry bar moving the engine mount behind drive shafts, same process for installation, no need to remove shafts or any other parts.
4 hours..that still sounds a faff..!!:bang:
got any pics / or a parts fische view - to indicate which mount ( and what you needed to do to it)
Cheers,
Charlie
