Technical Removing Transmission Detent Balls

I tried dismantling the gearbox on my 1300 and have already got stuck. I managed to pull out two of the three detent balls with a magnet easily. The middle ball is stuck and isn't coming out. How can I get this out? I've tried a magnet and it just seems to be moving only slightly in it's bore. Obviously there is some sort of restriction. Can anyone advise?

I don't think you need to remove the ball completely, once it moves out far enough to clear the notch in the selector shaft it engages with, it won't hinder stripping the gearbox. After the relevant selector shaft has been removed, you can push the ball into the hole where the selector shaft slides and retrieve it that way, you can also check out why the ball is sticking.
