I drive a P reg Mk1 Punto. Its done about 87,000 miles and recently "sailed" through its MOT.

Recently I have noticed that when I'm stopping the car starts to vibrate at low speeds (almost like before you stall - but my foot is down on the clutch).

Also, if I'm stopped at a red light for example, the engine starts to rev itself despite being in neutral and applying no gas. Sometimes the engine starts to really squeel. The only way to stop it seems to be to tap the gas.

Does anybody know what is causing these? Any advice on how to get rid of both?

Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Your clutch may not be dissengaging properly, does it make a crunching noise or a grinding noise when changing gear at all?

The irratic revving is probably the Idle Control Valve, there are plenty of threads about it with examples of how to clean or replace it, not something I've had to do though.

No crunching / grinding noise when changing gears. My engine oil is fine as well.

I'll have a look on how to change the Idel Control Valve then. Cheers.
