Technical Noisy Bravo

I've had this problem for a while! When I start my 'R' reg 1.4 Bravo there is a really bad grinding noise that comes from the car, which stops as soon as I put the clutch down. When driving the car its not as bad, it seems to do it only when the car is in neutral.

I have no idea what the problem is and was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and if there was any other option then buying a new car
