Has anyone got any ideas on the above? i fitted a new battery as old one went dead, its all fitted correctly. Electrics turn on, engine ticks over but not firing up. Any ideas guys???? HELP NEEDED

Well the other week mine was ticking over but not firing, and that was the crank position sensor. Also said "Loose connection" on the dash when trying to start it.

The engine hasnt immolised itself as the icon on the dash turns off once i turn the key to the MAR postion, just keeps ticking over but not firing up. Very confused and frustrated. any ideas???

Help needed urgent

I fitted a new battery on my Stilo today as the old one was dead. The Stilo now ticks over but wont fire up. I am getting "ASR, ABS & Engine Fault Sensor" faults coming up. The engine isnt immobilised as light on dash turns off once key is turned to MAR position. Has anyone got any ideas as i am getting very frustrated with it. I have tried to jump the car but just keeps ticking over.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help needed urgent

Old battery was dead so all the settings for all
the sensors have died. You have fitted a new battery
so the car has got to re learn all the base sensor details-
give the car 24 hours with the new battery (fully charged)
connected and you may find the faults go on there own.
If they don't then come back and see if someone who's
more experience then me can help.

Re: Help needed urgent

thanks John, just wondering, why would the engine not even start???

I'm guessing it ticks over, but not fully turns as it does not fire up. When old battery died it ticked continusy without any egine repsonse, just "tick tick tick" now with the new battery it turns, you can hear the engine trying to fire up, but doesnt. please HELP, i have tried everything.

Re: Help needed urgent

Ticks over means it's firing and running at 700 -1000 rpm
turning over means the starter motors turning the engine
over but it's not firing.

Did you press the throttle when you first tried to start it
if so you could also have flooded the engine.

Re: Help needed urgent

ok, so if i had flooded the engine, what is the way arou nd this? i did indeed press the throttle on more than one occasion.

If you can then leave the car alone until tomorrow
when you try and start it see if the body computer
stops registering the abs and other faults.

When you try and start it don't press the throttle
and see if it fires up. If so only when it tries to fire
press the throttle and hold it full down. If it tries
to run keep turning the engine over. It may be
flooded, beware though you know your car and how
much it can take without damaging anything or burning
the starter motor out.

See from your other post you did press the throttle

If it's flooded it the engine will turn over faster than
normal as it has little compression, the additional fuel
will have turned to liquid instead of a vapour. Causes
bore wash so the compression rings don't seal.

If thats the case the only thing is to turn the engine
over continuously with out pumping additional fuel in
not sure how too with the stilo my other car I used
to remove the fuel pump relay and churn the engine
over. I did it the first time on the stilo just after I had it
I tried starting the car with no throttle and just churned
away, when it began to bite (miss fire) I then pressed
the throttle kept churning with the throttle to the floor
it finally fired up sputtered but kept going with black
smoke comming out ot the exhaust. Be careful not to
burn the starter motor out though. Let cool down between
each try.

Don't start new threads about the same problem :nono:

You'll have more chance of an solution if you keep all the info together

Now merged.

OK battery all ok, waited over night. Seems to have a little more power in the start up, sensor faults now gone. However, car still not firing up. its turning over, and feels as though it will start but its not, i have tried many times, dont want to try to many as i dont want to burn the starter motor out. Unless it is infact the starter motor that is burnt out???? How would i tell????

It won't turn the engine over at all it will be like
having a flat battery plus it will be very hot to touch
might even burn your fingers.

When I mean churn it over I mean continuously for
2-3 minuites (it seems like that when your sitting there)
with our pausing or stopping then wait
10 minutes to allow the starter to cool. If it's turning
over fast with little resistance then it's flooded.

If you have decent compression and it's struggling
then it's possibly another sensor. Just check you
have not dislogged any sensor wires or plugs when you
swopped the battery too.

Does the Stilo have the same daft system as the Bravo where if you put your foot on th acclerator for more that 10 seconds it goes into Immobiliser Code Mode? In which case, you might have done that.
