Hi Just joined the forum lots of useful info.
I have a problem with my 2002 110 ELX JTD (n), the gear linkage broke in December just before entering gear box. Took it to my local friendly garage, to fix properly would have to take gearbox lots of expense. He had a look at it and managed a temporary weld to get me going again and to decide wnat I was going to do with car, lasted about a month. So decided to get it sorted, got a quote from a garage in the north east of england Team Valley Transmissions in Washington who seemed to know what they were talking about as they sepcialise in gear boxes. For £500 said they could get it sorted, went to pick it up worked great for about 6 weeks , then the gear change started to get sticky gradually . Thought it might be the clutch as they put a new one at the same time so bill came to total of £770 with VAT:cry: . Well the car is now stuck in 1st gear and will not budge!. Gave TVT garage a call and they came and picked it to have a look at. Didn't worry as they said the work came with a 12month warranty. Now they've come back saying that its somthing else and just to get the gear box out will cost a min of £300:mad: surley when they they had the box out and apart they would have seen any probs, does anyone know where i stand on this and have any idea's what the problem is:bang: By the way the car has 102k miles on ,

also front suspension is sitting very low ? was thinking of scrapping it but really dont need the expense of buying another car

Cheers

Hi, sorry to hear of your woe's.

I would have thought that if the problem is a gear problem, they are legally bound to put it right.
They might try to shift the blame elsewhere but in the end, it's their problem, not yours.
I would consider consulting with a local shark, er, I mean, solicitor - how I get those es's mixed up :).
I can't see why you had to pay for a clutch - it was ok when it went in wasn't it?
Even the cost of a gear box seems harsh, when it wasn't directly a box problem, it was the shifter.
I'd speak with some legal eagle first before ditching the bug.
All the best

Thanks for the advice George , is this a common problem on multiplas as i've read on other threads the gearboxes do seem to have some issues with selecting gears at times. Any body got any ideas what the problem could be caused by?

The linkage gets a bit seized up (easy fix) and like most cars nowadays the gearchange cables can give problems.£300 to take the box out seems a bit steep in the circumstances, what exactly do they think is wrong?

They charged you £700 and say its not their fault? your havin a laugh right?
Id go get my biggest mate and stand over the feckers and ask exactly what has gone wrong that they can tell its gonna need the box out to fix that they did not see before they "fixed it".
Cheeky gets !

Be interested and hope you resolve the issue with g/box ok. My multipla had possibly similar problem, tho I wasn't in it at time. The part (according to my wife and what the AA man told her) that the selector connects to had snapped off the g/box. The AA told us the g/box was ok, and only this part needed changing. However, when taken to Continental cars in N London, they said two gears were down and g/box was stuffed. Interested that your g/box problem began with what sounds like same part failure? It cost £900 to fix ours, not sure the car is really worth it, (51 reg w/87k), but we've had it since new and the wife would be lost... Is the g/box connector mechanism part that snapped off indication of greater problems, or are we just getting shafted here?

Hi had a similar problem with my 53 multipla 118k, changed the gear box and now can only select 1-3-5 gears, any ideas to solve this problem
