Technical mk1 1.2 16v sporting overheating

hi all ,ive just bought a t reg sporting off ebay with overheating problems the car runs fine theres just no heat coming into the car and its overheating.

ive fitted a new thermostat but when i took the old casing off the thermostat was missing, ive tried bleeding the car and ive got three bleed nipples one on rad and one on each of the heater matrix hoses ive got hot water going from engine to matrix but the hose coming back from the matrix is only cold water.

can anybody help please cheers mat

the impeller might have sheared off the water pump ive seen this and they dont like getting too hot or trying to turn frozen water
you could take off the water pipe on the front of the block to confirm impeller is still in place and turning by letting engine tick over for 30 seconds with pipe removed

thanks very much for your help will try it first thing in mornin i take it if water pump is good then water should spray out of the block with pipe removed?

Any water inside the car at all? Water pump sounds suspect.

Definately some bodging going on. I'd not worry about running the engine -- you should be able to see the impeller with the water rail removed. If it's not perfect, replace it. If you can spin it on its shaft, replace it.
