Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, but in a big hurry so don't have time to post in the new members section. Sorry! :)

Anyway, I'm on the verge of buying a Marea 2.4TD HLX Saloon for £595 with 105,000 miles on the clock.

The trader doesn't know when the cambelt was last changed, so I'm budgeting this into the sale and accepting I'm going to have to get it done. I know I'm going to be looking at around £500, but if any of you could confirm this then that would be great? :)

My next question is more generic. Do any of you know roughly what sort of mileage to the gallon I'm likely to get out of this car? I've been advised that I'm looking at about 40 miles to the gallon. Does this match anybody's experience?

Cheers.

James

hi and welcome to the forum. The cambelt should coast more than £250 i would say tops depending where you go obiviously if you take it to a fiat dealership you will be paying more for the same work and as for mpg with the 2.4 TD im not to sure im getting on average about 43-45mpg from mine but its a JTD so would expect you should get somewhere between 35-40 mpg depending on how you drive just as any other car.

But hopefully someone with pop in shortly who has the 2.4 TD engine to offer so more help

I had a 2.4 TD125 saloon..
Cracking car.. loads of torque..
mostly distance work and returned 43-48 mpg.. sitting at 80...
As for cam belt.. I doubt anyone would do it for 250... its basically an engine out job... massive massive job really... (Fiat quoted about 1000 quid) the engine is a very tight squeeze in the bay...
there was a co that specialised in 5cyl coupe's that do it for sensible money.. could be an ad for them on Autotrader..

I have a marea 24td 125lx got timing belt and a new pulley done by local garage for 250

Didnt have mine long enough to find out.. and it was in 1997....
250 sounds like a bargain... so it can be done in situ.. must enlist the help of some seriously skinny arms then!!!:D

Until 9 months ago I was travelling 120 miles/day at 70 mph and was averaging 43 mpg. I'm now doing about 6 miles per day and averaging 33 mpg.

I replaced the cam belt myself, it is a tight squeeze but with a lot of patience it's not too diffcult. As a precaution, I replaced the water pump, adjustable tensioner and fixed tensioner at the same time, about £120 all in IIRC.

Hope this helps.
