I often wonder how vw ended up with the reputation it has for engineering...for years it made mechanically conservative cars that in general produced 20% less power engine size for engine size than there contemporaries which as a result of being so understressed lasted forever.
However whenever they try something new they seem to make something vw enthusiasts will be describing in a decade as "perfectly reliable any problems will be the result of poor maintenance or a one off friday car".
I've not heard much about the new tsi motors however there are reports of some using as much as 1l of oil to do 600 miles to the point the back of the car is covered in soot. Obviously others are no bother which points to whisper it..poor quality control. DSG is a nightmare to fix...and you are more likely to suffer an engine failure in an audi than nearly any other car.
