Technical k&N Filter Letdown

Technical k&N Filter Letdown

i have seen high rpm powerloss within a few mins of fitting a freshly oiled filter on numerous occasions. cleaning the MAF has always fixed it. for that reason i assumed the oil must be contaminating the MAF.

now that i think about it again, and try my best to find a flaw in my logic, it is possible that the MAF was simply dirty beforehand and fitting the air filter just so happened to affect performance in a negative way (which, lets be honest, isnt uncommon). then cleaning the MAF improved performance so it appeared to have solved the problem, but cleaning a dirty MAF improves performance a lot even if you dont change anything else such as the airfilter.

so now i'm doubting myself. next time i will clean the MAF before fitting the filter. if cleaning it a second time after fitting and using the filter makes a difference then the MAF must have been contaminated by something, and if it makes no difference then i've been fooled for years by my own false logic.
