Got this really annoying problem with my 2001 JTD. In the rev band around 2300 to 2700rpm it suffers from a flat spot, where the engine hesitates as you accelerate through the gears. Its noticeable in all gears apart from 1st. Its particularly annoying in 5th because on a motorway it happens around 70mph so you end up having to drive above or below this speed.
I've only noticed this following curing a previous problem I had where the engine had lost bottom end power. This has finally been cured with a new egr valve. So whilst the engine power is now back to what it should be i have this flat spot to contend with. Its also had an air mass flow valve just prior to fitting the egr valve. It suggests some sort of sensor playing up to me, but any ideas please?
