Hey, looking to get a massive service done on my car since it was last serviced in August 2014.

Anyone got experience with Halfords and their services?

Any horror stories or all good.

Thanks

What do you mean by massive ?

I have the works van serviced at halfords and they are fine for standard oil changes and plugs, would not go near them for anything like a cambelt change,

Wouldn't it be better to find a Fiat specialist.

Well since it hasn't been serviced in nearly 2 years, I was going to go for the 71 point check service

For what they charge you'd be better looking locally for a proper "old" independent garage ask about the little independent has little to make by ripping folk off as they have their reputation to protect and dont have the big £££££ to advertise ...

http://www.boschcarservice.co.uk/what-is.php

These fast fit places are always on the "make" and seldomly do a good job as they are rush rush rush

The GP is getting on in years now so most garages are used to them that said if its the 1.2 /1.4 the engine has been around since the 1980's so most garages know them inside out

oh
Fully Synthetic Oil
An extra charge of £22 is applicable for vehicles which require fully synthetic oil. If your vehicle requires fully synthetic oil, select the upgrade below to add it to your booking. If you are unsure, your autocentre will advise you and payment will be taken in-centre.

(thats the GP)

Lots of checks but if wrong how much are they going to charge to "make good"

Have had a couple of ''Major'' services done by Halfords. On the good side, as we couldn't define whether one car had fully synth or not, they flushed the engine through before filling with the correct oil. On the down-side, they're expensive. Also check that they stamp the service book.

Have you had previous experience with the Bosch servicing?

As well as do they supply any sort of courtesy car?

our local indi is on the bosch list.. used them a few times (as you can probably tell by my guides i DIY once out of warranty) but i get them to do the "3rd year service" a bit early as that way if they find anything i can go back and shout at the dealer ;)

ask round locally to you but i know many people think our local place is crap (as they fail their car on the MOT and no one likes that one little bit ;) )

as for a courtesy car thats down to the garage i suppose

Main reason I'm asking all these questions is because I'm a young driver, and I don't want to be ripped off by companies because they think they can do this because I have no choice in the matter.

I just don't want to be ripped off with unneeded repair bills.

E.G. when I went to get a new seatbelt stalk in for my seatbelt issue I told him about my drum brake issue of when I released the brake pedal it squeaked, now I know that this is mainly due to a build up of brake dust within the shoe or it needs to be adjusted. The mechanic went ahead and told me that that kind of squeak is hard to get rid of and would probably lead me to get new drum brakes. I told him to leave it.

I use them regularly. Got their privilege service plan. Pay £16.99 pm, that pays for 1 x full service, 1 x major service and 1 x full service + 3 MOT's. Never had a problem with them. Not felt ripped off and never seemed to want to do unnecessary work. You also get 10 to 20% of parts etc
