Gearbox trouble 08 bravo diesel 1.9i help!

Hi, my faithful bravo has just done 90k but in the last week, the gear box is really stiff and I'm struggling to put it into 1st and 3rd gear! Does this mean the gear box is shot or does it just need a service/ gearbox oil? I have no knowledge of mechanics and am worried about taking it to a local garage in case they try to rip me off!

Is the gearbox stiff or just the clutch ?
If you have problems with the 1 and 3 gear, it sounds like you need a new clutch and not a gearbox.

Could be a cable problem. The B2 works off cable linkages IIRC.
