Driving up to Sunderland yesterday my drivers door speaker expired after a recent spell of exposure to Motorhead's classic "Overkill" album. The final straw was the instrumental version of "Year ya down". I didn't have it loud at all, but Phil Taylor's double kick bass was obviously just too much...
I've researched various threads etc. about the Brava/Bravo ICE / speaker set up, and as standard it is:
Standard system - 4 x 15W (rms I suppose)
Front:
2 x tweeters (dash, 1" or 1 1/2 ", 40W)
2 x elliptic (oval) mid-woofers, (door, 130mm x 180mm / 5" x 7" 30W)
N.B. wired in parallel so each impedance should be 8ohm I think (???)
Rear:
2 x full range (parcel shelf, 130mm / 5 1/4", 30W)
I know that the usual replacement for front door speakers is a 5 1/4" with an adaptor plate, is it true that 5 x 7's are hard to find aftermarket? I also heard that the Fiat fitting is not quite standard... true?
Anyway I'm looking at a standard or equivalent replacement for one or both front door speakers... any comments?
The main question is whether a "mid woofer" would be any better or worse than a "full range", what frequencies are we talking?
And also if the original speakers are a normal impedance or not.
Incidentally, a lack of sound from the rear speakers was traced to the passenger side one being disconnected, presumably after some bodywork repairs a while ago! Strangely there now seems to be much more sound from the other rear speaker...
Comments welcome.
Cheers
John
