My car is currently showing to be doing 29mpg on the trip computer. I'm doing city driving and short journeys, is this normal? Took my car for an mot the other week and an advisory is that there is a small exhaust leak, could this be related?

Hi and welcome :)

The exhaust leak wont help..but is probably having minimal effect

but 29mpg in a stop.start environment isnt too shocking

45 is what you would get on a 2 hour trip at 50mph on open roads..

You are going up and down the gears.. if not sat at junctions

But :

Clear out any unnecessary junk in the car
Its extra weight

Get the tyres pumped up.. makes a big difference (look in the manual.. or ask in grande section)

Getting used to the car will also help you get smoother.. slowing less.. keeping rolling.. it all helps :)

Fiting eco tyres when your current ones are worn Will get you an extra 2-3 mpg likely

True..
Or buy a diesel..and double the mpg ;)

Unfortunately the Grande lives up to its name.. pretty big / heavy for a 'supermini'

My twinair does 52 the diesels do 68

If I'd try a 4 cylinder petrol it would be @43 with my usage

Having had a 1.4 8v I can say the economy is pretty poor compared to some. If you’re doing sort city trips sitting in traffic with the engine running then yes 29mpg is perfectly reasonable, but then it would be on any car, as you’re burning fuel and not moving.
