Technical Fiat stilo 1.6 2002

Hello guys.

I have a fiat stilo from 2002 and when i been driving my stilo every time i got up hill or change to a higher gear then engine failure lights truns on and goes away after a min or two, well to day i when for a ride engine failure comes up and wont go away again :S does any know what it can be? :bang:

No but your car does so I would buy a fault code reader or find someone who can read any fault codes stored for you

Had a cambelt changed recently?

From the little information you've given, it's impossible to tell what the problem could be. If you get the fault codes read it will give us a clue.

What was the outcome of your previous problem when the engine was banging then wouldn't start?

The problem was with one of the spark plugs :S it was totaly destroyd :S

hmm a code reader where do i get one of those?

For a 2002 petrol car, any EOBD one should work, Halfords, Argos, eBay.

Providing your car was sold in Europe from 2001, then it should be EOBD compatible and the one in your link should work OK. However there have been reports of some cars sold from 2001 not being EOBD compliant. If your is, there should be a sticker somewhere in the engine compartment to confirm it.

They are available cheaper than the one in your link and I suspect shipping from the USA to the Faroe Islands may be expensive.

I was wondering if the fault code reader also can reset the board computer on the car? or can it only read the fault codes?

Most OBD2 readers can reset fault codes, it's only the cheeper models that cant reset,

If by restart you mean reset then yes it will erase the stored fault codes but only if the error has gone.
