General Fiat Panda 900 (1996)

Does somebody know the engine? It is supposed to be a downsized old 903 cc and quite rare bird.
The thing is there is one available for peanuts not far from where I live. The owner mentions "engine rattle, dying after it heats up".
This may very well be one of the last chances to get the species, which is almost extinct here. If it was the standard FIRE, I would not hesitate a single second, but this...

Timing chains are usual cause of rattles on this engine but would not cause dying when hot, so you may have two issues there.

Of course the rattle could be pinking, in which case both issues could be related.
