I love my fiat ducato 3 litres 2008 long wheel base camper, , I am asking about the best way to replace the water pump does anybody know how to do the mechanical work within a day labor.

I did it last week. On my 3.0 2011 ducato. I started removing the wheel (motorside) and trim (behind the wheel and on the underside of the engine. Removed the stretchy belt between the airo and main pulley. Then removed on top the headlight unit, coolant reservoir (left the steeringreservoir hanging in place. Placed a jack underneath the engine for support. Removed the rubber enginge mount and jacked everything a little bit up. After jacking it up. you have room to remove the two rubberen pipes and the 5 bolts.

It's perfectly do able in one day.

hi thank you for your reply

hi , 3 litre 2008 LWB needs a new water pump , only one mechanic around hear wants to do it , Northern NSW Australia

1, read your Ducatos VIN plate

It will confirm the Build spec 244 as an example
And Motor type.. could be JTD maybe not

2. Look in the forums downloads to find the 'service manual' for the relevant model

Once you know which variant you actually have.. you can probably SEARCH pictures and info in this forum

Seeing the Op was the last respondent to a very informative ...and quite old... thread

I will wait until they give information rather than questions
Sorry missed that. Perhaps I am showing my above average age.

hi thank you for the interest , I hope to be able to do it without removing the engine, 'the Fiat Ducato book recommends that the engine is to be removed' , The Ducato has travelled 279,000 km only only , i also am asking how long should the exterior of the water pump , namely the spindle hold for

the ducato is a 3 litre, LWB 2008 it seems to be running fine, not loosing water etc I needed a new fan belt and then the mechanic told me and showed me the exterior of the water pump , this is the spindle wheel that has the belt on it , is a bit wobbly, he claims it needs replacing , when checked the manual it says to take the engine out , but on investigation here , I see it can be done in a day if I can find some one to do it, however I need to know if the mechanic is over reacting , for all I know the spindles always wobble a bit ? does any one know how long they should last for and what would happen if they bust while it is running

Hi,
The water pump shaft should not be "wobbly" at all. The mechanic who took the extra time to actually demonstrate the problem to you is 100% correct it needs to be replaced. Once the "wobble" is noticeable the water pump will not last very long.
Print post number 3, take it to your mechanic and talk about it then get it done, you mind will then rest on this matter.

thank you i will get it done, that is have the water pump replaced as soon as can find a mechanic to do it one day. 1) it is difficult where I live to find a mechanic to work on it - 2)and the mechanic has to be able to do it in a day But a big thank you for the information

hi i had my water pump fitted correctly in my 3 litre 2008 ducato torbo , however the mechanic used water as a coolant , should he have used another coolant?

secondly he mentioned the throttle jets seemed rusted on the top , he suggested this was a bad sign , is he telling me the truth as the van is going great

i found a Ducato specialist who replaced the pump in 6 hours work , and I know it is a water pump , question 1- does the water pump require specific coolant or am I just needing water
2- I had to travel after the job, 150 km home , some heavy slow traffic , when I got back the water level was down to basic minimum height , is this normal after getting a new water pump
3_ the mechanic said the throttle jets were rusted on top, what does this mean, he also said this was a bigger job than getting a new water pump. it is running fine atm.
