Technical Fiat 500x

My Fiat 500x Popstar is a 2016 reg it is automatic however it keeps coming out of Drive saying it is not available. Fiat garage in Colchester said it is not on a recall and I have been quoted £3000 for a new transmission system. Help? Should I ring head office of Chrysler and it only has 36000 miles on the clock. Is it worth fixing I ask myself.

Have the Fiat garage actually inspected the car and stated it needs a new gearbox or have they just said £3000 IF it needs a new gearbox?

Fiat did not offer to see it, the quote came from an automatic transmission specialist who are collecting it to inspect it. I can’t get it to a Fiat garage because it needs towing.

Fingers crossed it’s not as serious as needing a new gearbox, and hopefully the transmission specialists that are collecting the car are an honest bunch and correctly diagnose the fault!

Has anybody attempted yet to read any fault codes? Often these will give an indication as to what the problem *might* be.

I say *might* because things can get complicated and intertwined. Often though issues tend to be the same for any given vehicle component in that one gets common problems as opposed to thousands of random and different issues/failures.
