Technical ECU problem (I think)

Hi, I have just bought a 500X. Love it, but haven't been able to drive it yet.
I bought it as a non runner, its a 2015 1.6 diesel with only 37K miles.
I have the following codes: U1701-87 ECM on C Can - missing message and U1701 - 8F ECM erratic. The car won't start, not sure if it recognises the key?
I cannot disconnect the electric handbrake nor remove the steering lock.
Any assistance will be very gratefully received.

On a quick search some say related to ABS computer or what I call the BCM body computer.
What diagnostic tool are you using many here use MES Fiat Multi Ecu Scan with great success, when fixing my daughters Punto Evo it had an ABS issue and one of the codes coming up was U1701, I used my friends Snap On Zeus diagnostics to run the "Proxi Alignment" program which searched for all the components and allowed them to "talk" to each other. I still had to fit a new unused BCM as previous owners repair had damaged it.
Re key, are you getting a padlock sign on dashboard? Also diagnostics will say if "immobilised".
Others on Forum may have more detail.
