Technical Distributor question

I'm finishing lil blues engine rebuild and fished the distributor out of the box of stored parts yesterday and discovered (I guess it's the oil seal) has cracked and lost a bit. See pic below
Can you get replacement seals, is it necessary ?
I know it might be a daft question but as it's cracked it's probably going to disintegrate if I put it in like this, I have 2 other distributors and neither have one on them either.

That is an oil slinger to prevent the oil coming up the shaft by capillary action. You can buy replacements and I am sure you will find that they have broken and fallen off your other distributors. It also works in conjunction with the washer on the shaft before it to limit end float on the shaft.

Ahhhh your an absolute star thanks very much, I've been beating myself up about this for months, I nearly relented and bought a new distributor...
I spoke to a guy at riocambio and he didn't understand what I was talking about.
