daylight running light fault

HI all
my daughter has a 2011 500.some nights the DRL'S just turn on when the car is off and locked.
does anyone have any ideas ?

Is that just the front DRL on? I guess it should have the back lights on too. This happens when you turn the key on and turn the DRL on then switch off the key.
I sometimes do it on purpose when parking offstreet at night.

Ye the rear lights come on as well, then in the morning the battery is flat. Just had a new battery fitted on it.

Doesn’t that make it a parking light?

If the front AND rear lights come on then its not the DRL's that are on(would be really bright at night) but the side lights.

Do the DRL's work correctly during the day, all other lights off?
Are the lights turned off normally?, not left "on" when the key is removed?

My first guess given the age would be the rear hatch wires shorting out turning the lights on, does EVERYTHING on the rear hatch work as expected?
