Ironically 2003 2.0 jtd timing belt broke on way to garage to get timing belt done. It is a low mileage 60k car in good condition so I think its worth repair.
Noted many bad experiences with forum users in same situation, with garage quoiting for new engine, unable to fix, etc. Doing a bit of research and it seems the major issue in repair is removing injectors. Fortunately there is a place in Malton North Yorkshire near me that specialise in this job.
My question is what is likely damage? Seems valve rocker arms are designed as weak point and pistons hit square on, some reports indicate just rockers and new belt kit? Presumably this could be done in situ (providing injectors come out ok) without the need to remove the head? If valves are damaged will the cylinder head / engine need to come out.
Want to have a good understanding of the job so I don't get shafted. Thinking of getting injectors removed then taking to local garage and getting them to replace rocker arms, fit new belt/tensioner kit and compression test with engine in situ. If compression test fails then cylinder head off to replace valves? Is this a realistic approach??
