Technical Bottom pulley on 1900TD tipo

Can someone tell me what the bottom grooved pulley drives/does? today car made a nice noise then loads of smokeand the belt snapped, i could not turn the bottom pulley by hand. Is this normal.Oh and the car juddered while the smoke was pouring out..

It has blown up and seized... the bottom pulley as you call it is the crankshaft pulley.


Get it towed somewhere remote and blow it up

you wont be able to turn it by hand it must power something like aultanator (sp) or power stearing pump

because its conected to crankshaft that conected to conrods thats conected to pistons that are under compresion, take all the spark plugs out and it will turn by hand, does engine still turn over on the key?

Ive not tried turning it over with the key incase i did more damage. i got it towed to a local fiat garage (well me mates) and will see if it is totally FUBAR'd

unless the timing belt (goes from top to botton of engine usally sits behind bottom pully) is broke you wouldnt do no damages to the engine,

AFAIK the cambelt is in one piece. lets hope..... find out monday when i give me mate a buzz.
