Battery light whirling sound

Hi.folks.had a problem with my Fiat grande Punto 57 plate.couple of weeks ago started car in the morning battery light came on and no power steering.got it taken to garage they checked it over alternator battery leads took it for test drive no fault found.since then been hearing a whirling sound for few seconds then stop.took it to a different garage they also checked alternator battery all leads no fault found.today on way home whirling sound again but more often also battery light kept flashing on and off and lost power steering when I came to a stop then came back on again.it is currently back at garage and they are going to check again.any ideas most people I have spoken to have said alternator but two garages have checked that and it's ok

Welcome to Fiat Forum.
Does sound like an alternator fault. I wonder how they tested it, just sticking a simple voltmeter on it is not enough for modern cars or intermittent faults.
Where are you located? If you are near Cambridge I can do a proper test of the battery and chrging system. e.g.
