General Asking for coolant...

My 2002 1.9td Scudo's started intermittently asking for coolant - only once every couple of months or so. I topped it up the first time in December, but it's showing up again though just on occasion. And I've checked it and there should really be enough - the level's over half way up the min/max indicators. I know next to nothing about engines but have heard this could be a sign of the head gasket going - does anyone know if that's right? I don't want to wait until it's too late and any major damage is done. I've checked the oil and that was clean - no gunk or anything in there, and I'm not having any problems with engine temperature at all.

Could also be a coolant leak, check all pipes and their joins

have u lost any coolant just mine has to be filled to the max line if not my light keeps flashing

Could be all manner of leakage problems. In my case it was thought likely to be the water pump since this is where water was seen gathering below. After 3 new pumps replaced it turned out to be a pin hole in the heater hose pipe behind the engine.
