Hi, I have a lovely squealing belt on my car (A 1.9 JTD) which is really getting on my nerves. Whilst changing a headlight bulb today (which is a heck of a lot harder than it should be thanks to some dumb design on the cover placement next to a piece of bodywork), I took a look at the side of the engine to see if I could locate the alternator and adjust it's tension to take up the slack on the belt.
My car at some point had the AC Pump taken out of the belt loop as the bearing appears to have gone when you spin it, but looking down the side of the engine I can see the main belt wrapped around 4 pulleys but I have no idea what they are.
Can someone tell me the location of the alternator and if it is easy to adjust. I am hoping it is not at the bottom of the engine and requiring me to go under the car to do like my last sodding car did....
Just to give you an idea I have attached a pic of the engine itself in case it varies on model to model.
Thanks guys
Max
