Aftermarket air filter and fumes

I have recently fitted a k&n cone style filter that i bought on ebay. This ment taking off the whole standard filter box etc. i have put a mini filter also on for the oil. I am getting a smell of fumes in the car. I believe this is the breather pipe as it is now not connected to anything. Does anyone know a solution to this apart from putting the standard box back on?

well you have pointed out the issue youself
that is a breather,breathing out of the crankcase

Get a cone filter designed for the car? Will most likely have a designated hole for the breather then.

you could always extend the breather down to the front of the car into the atomosphere?

I did this on my MK2 punto. no problems with the MOT ... (as long as the tester does not notice it )

As Reuuk said , Get a bit of pipe , fit ti to the breather , and dangle it towards the floor , or put the pipe back in to your induction pipe ,

if MOT man noties breather not attached - its an MOT failure as its not venting correctly

the pressure is vented back into the engine so the fumes can be burnt off - shoved into the atmosphere via exhaust and cat

You may forwell find the cone filter does
NOTHING to improve performance except

- Make it suck in hot air = Less performance
- Probably mess up the fueling = making it less eco and less powerful
- Your filling your car up with fumes
- Wasted money on an engine that cant really perform any better with it on

Personally - stick the original back in
